Care & Maintenance

At massimo copenhagen we create handmade rugs that will stand the test of time. We want them to feel current today and, in the years to come. This is why the quality has to be second to none.  The choice of weaving technique, strength of the fibers, eco-friendly materials. And this is where we’re really thriving.

The decision to work only with natural and recycled materials is important to us. Not only due to the sustainable properties of materials such as Rpet, hemp or wool, but also due to the strength, durability and versatile nature of these materials. With the right maintenance and cleaning, your massimo rug will retain its appearance and its good qualities for many years to come, while ensuring a healthy indoor climate.

Care & Maintenance Guide
Installation

When you receive your carpet from Massimo Copenhagen, it will be rolled in plastic and may need time to unfold. The carpet might bend slightly, but this will correct itself as it stretches out over time. We always recommend having a bottle of Massimo Spot Remover on hand, so you can quickly and easily address stains as they occur.

Our rug production is based in India, where skills of weavers are passed down from one generation to another, handcrafting textiles renowned worldwide for their quality and intricate artistry. Every process involved in making a massimo rug is manual, which means each rug is one-of-a-kind.

General Maintenance

It is a good idea to turn the rug around twice a year to avoid uneven wear and to place e.g. felt under the feet of heavy furniture standing on the rug. Note that the colors may fade if the carpet is exposed to strong sunlight for a longer period of time. Staining from the backside of the carpet may occur so it is recommended to use an underlay carpet on delicate surfaces.

In some of our qualities like Bamboo, Earth Bamboo and Earth press marks from furniture will occur. In most cases they can be removed by gently brushing the spot with a cotton cloth or by using a steam iron. Never use the steam iron directly on the rug. Press marks from chairs must always be accepted when using these qualities under a dining or a conference table.

General for Removing Stains

The first time a new cleaning agent or stain remover is used on the carpet, you should check whether the agent may damage the carpet. Damage may occur as a result of colour bleed, discolouration, bleaching or dissolution. We recommend that before applying any solution, test a corner and then apply to the stain AND wipe the stain from outside to inside to avoid spreading dirt onto clean areas/areas.

Always work from the edge of the stain towards the centre. To prevent the cleaned area from quickly becoming soiled again after treatment, it is important to rinse off and blot up the remaining stain-removing agent. The faster you take action to remove a stain, the greater the chances of successfully removing the stain.

Material Care

New Zealand Wool

Note that certain types of stains are very difficult to remove, and that such stains will often be more visible on a light, plain-coloured carpet than on a similar darker, patterned carpet.

When you get a stain on your carpet, it is important to always remove the dirt and absorb any liquids from the carpet fibers. Then, gently dab the stain with an uncolored cotton cloth or paper towel to prevent the stain from soaking into the carpet. It is important to be gentle and not scrub the carpet but to dab the stain. We always recommend purchasing Massimo Spot Remover so that you have it on hand if an accident happens. However, if you are dealing with a stain right now, you can either quickly get the product, as it is extremely effective on wool carpets and can often remove most stains even after they have dried, or you can try the following guide:

Carefully spray some sparkling water on the stain and dab again with the uncolored cotton cloth. Gently try to remove the stain by dabbing with the damp cloth. Then, try to remove as much moisture as possible from the carpet by absorbing it with a dry, uncolored cloth or paper towel.

Bamboo is an extremely delicate material and tends to react strongly when exposed to stain removers and other substances. Therefore, it is not ideal to have bamboo rugs in areas where there is a high risk of spills.

The most important thing about a 100% bamboo rug is to handle it carefully and very gently. It is important to understand that a stain is a foreign substance on a quality carpet, and we cannot guarantee that the stain will disappear completely, but it should reduce the stain’s visibility on the carpet.

If it is a larger stain or a stubborn stain, we recommend having it cleaned by a professional.
