Hemp Collection by Tanja Kirst

The Hemp Collection by Tanja Kirst is hand-woven with Italian hemp yarn. Each thread consists of 50 thin threads spun together and dyed in bio colour. The collection is part of an on going project investigating how the familiar hemp plant can be transformed into durable and sustainable woven textiles. The fact that hemp requires little water, can be cultivated without fertiliser and improves soil structure and adds nutrients as it grows – makes the hemp plant important in the aim for a more sustainable textile production. Handwoven in a flat weave construction with colour and weft effect.

Underlay carpet is included.
Suitable for domestic and contract use.

Care
Professional cleaning is recommended. Never clean with chemicals!
Daily cleaning: Use the vacuum cleaner without brush – frequently when the carpet is new as it will produce shed fluff for a period of time. Vacuum in the direction of the pile. It is a good idea to turn the rug around twice a year to avoid uneven wear and to place e.g. felt under the feet of heavy furniture standing on the rug. Note that the colours may fade if the carpet is exposed to strong sunlight for a longer period of time. Staining from the backside of the carpet may occur so it is recommended to use an underlay carpet on delicate surfaces. Please contact your local dealer for further advise.

About Tanja Kirst
Tanja Kirst’s work is characterized by reflection on thoughts and details that you don’t immediately recognize. This includes subtle colour transition and gradation into shades.

Tanja Kirst works with hemp as a sustainable alternative in textile design, rethinking a well-known material in a space between design and craftsmanship, she gives this eco-friendly material a whole new appeal. With interaction and observation, all the functions and details can be experienced over time. This experimental process and way of designing is developed with an intention to add more value to the textile – and to give a poetic approach and longevity to the product.
