Circular Return Program
Give your rug a second life instead of letting it go to waste.
After more than 25 years of designing high-quality rugs made from natural, responsibly sourced materials, massimo copenhagen introduces its next step toward a more circular future: the Circular Return Program. The initiative reflects the company’s long-standing Scandinavian approach to sustainable and responsible living and its commitment to extending the life cycle of every rug. The program is built around two pathways: re-use and recycle.
Start the return
re-use
Intended for rugs that are still in good condition and can be given a second life. Donated directly to the Danish Red Cross, the rugs can find new homes and continue to be used for many years. All pricing and distribution are handled by the Danish Red Cross, and all proceeds support their humanitarian work.

recycle
Material recycling is designed for rugs that are too damaged for donation and, in the future, will be repurposed through responsible material recovery. Recycling is still in development and will be introduced once the right partners and methods are fully in place.
“We believe that taking responsibility for our products – before, during, and after their use – is essential to a more sustainable future,” says Chim Scavenius-Sonne Schmidt. “This program is about reducing waste, supporting meaningful causes, and ensuring that the materials we use continue their journey with as little environmental impact as possible.”
Have more questions?
We believe that quality rugs deserve a long life. Our Circular Return program is part of our commitment to durability, reuse, and responsible production, and to making it easier for our customers to make a conscious choice.
If you didn’t find the question or answer you were looking for, you’re always welcome to reach out below.
You start the process online by filling out a short form with details about your rug and uploading a few photos. Based on this information, we assess whether the rug can be accepted for donation through our partners.
If your rug is accepted, you can choose how it’s returned:
- Drop-off in Birkerød
- Pickup via courier
- Pickup in connection with the delivery of a new rug, using the new rug’s packaging to reduce waste
Once approved, you’ll receive a discount code to use on a future Massimo purchase.
We accept Massimo rugs that are in good or medium condition and suitable for reuse.
This typically includes rugs that:
- Are structurally intact
- Have intact edging
- Do not have strong or persistent odors (such as smoke or pet smells)
- Can be cleaned and reused without extensive repair
As part of the process, you’ll be asked to upload 2–3 photos so we can make a fair and transparent assessment.
Accepted rugs are registered in our system and donated to our partner organisation, Red Cross, where they are given a second life and money goes to their work. This ensures that usable rugs stay in circulation and are not unnecessarily thrown out.
If your rug is accepted, you’ll receive a discount code that can be used on a new Massimo rug. The code is our way of saying thank you for helping extend the life of our products and supporting a more circular approach.
